Welcome aboard the bridge of the USS.Soapbox.
Let me introduce myself, my name is James, Captain of the USS.Soapbox. On board you will find my thoughts, comments, musings and complaints on all things important and trivial. Please enjoy and if anything gets you attention please leave a comment (I do enjoy them) as I continue my journey through the expanse called life.
So just for for the sake of conversation let’s assume two things, you are no longer employed by your previous employer and because the way this change in employment was communicated to you, and after a short investigation the courts have awarded you £/$ 2 million vat/tax free. However there is a condition that you must have some type of employment for at least part time hours ok!
I think I would invest some of my money into my own business. I might open a model shop or a small computer shop or something in between, Work the hours I wanted and be my own boss basically turn a hobby into a job.
What Would You Do?
Well one of the things I did while on my break was to see a few movies and the one I wish to touch on is Avatar. I went to my local IMAX at the Glasgow Science centre and as usual it did not disappoint.
Now not only was it Imax but also in 3D yes that’s right A 3D IMAX film and I must admit it is absolutely amazing. I will not discuss the plot as there is nothing worse so if you have not seen it go, I recommend that you see it in a theatre as soon as possible.
Good morning everybody.
Well We all had a great Christmas and new years was quiet as usual. I know I have not been about for a while and I apologise but I have been taking time out so slow down and take a rest by taking a break from the world.
Thanks to all who visited and posted and were kind enough to ask after me.
So get yet ready for a whole new year of my own brand of humour or tripe!
Have A Very Merry Christmas
and A Happy And
Prosperous New Year.
From
James, Catherine, Rebecca, Emma.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my new friends in the blogosphere that have this so much fun over the last 6 months or so, I hope you all get your Christmas wishes and of course more importantly get the time to spend it with your family. See you all next year!
So we have less than 7 days to Christmas now. I assume that you have all got your gifts organised or do you have just one or two things to sort or are you a crazy person who enjoys the stress and panic of doing it all on Christmas eve?
So now you have everyone else’s gifts sorted out, what would you like from Santa, out of interest and for a bit of fun post what you would like for Christmas in the comments and when Christmas is done come back and post what you received as a comment your and we can all see how close we were or how far out we were.
Before I go any further, There is something I must do and that is apologise to my eldest daughter.
Rebecca I unreservedly apologise for incorrectly holding you responsible for the resent issues with the home server and computers,
The reason I believed this to be this case was both the server and your laptop were the worst computers affected (however there were previous instances where you were the guilty party which did influence my reasoning).
After browsing the web I came across this statement from my AV supplier Avast.
On Thursday 3.12. 2009 Avast! had a bad false positive issue. At around 00:15 AM GMT we released VPS update 091203-0 which started flagging hundreds of innocent files as a ‘Win32:Delf-MZG‘ Trojan (or, in less common cases, as ‘Win32:Zbot-MKK‘). Among the files affected were high-profile programs produced by Adobe, Realtek, sound card drivers, various media players etc.
This is disgraceful thing to happen, because of this I stripped a server to bare (seven) drives, formatting all, deleted data from the system and backup’s to ensure that it did not follow back on to the system and reinstalling the OS, I also ended up buying new AV software for my clients as this was the only way to clear the infection for which some were urgently needed for collage work.
And it turns out the tool that I spent a lot of money and used to protect my data ended up being the reason for lost data, time and money, because no matter how many time I thought it was gone due to the faulty product the issue kept showing up and why it appeared to be almost impossible to clear.
I would after this disgrace recommend that you do not use the Avast product for something as important as you home server for the very reason I have outlined above.
While my subscription ends in January I still paid £50 (for 6 Norton licences) to clear non existent viruses off PC’s as such I will not be renewing my subscription for the server either and will be looking at other solutions.
While my time is something I consider to be valuable there is no way for me to put an absolute time spent or finical price on the time consumed by this, however I will investigate what options are available to me for perusing my financial losses/expenses be that by Avast making good or by other avenues.
I am not a happy bunny to say the least.
I have made some changes to the blog.
I have still not worked out the best way to do tags, so I have decided to redo them to make it easier to find things. So if you could please bear with me while things are updated.
Please let me know what you think.
